The Kit

Below we have described the kit that we began our journey with. This is purely for the gear geeks. It’s a long so we don’t expect many people to read it! To find out how its working for us check out our blog. The list is complete as of 31 Jan 18:

HAND ROHLOFF ‘STOATER’
Frame:
• Frame: Tig welded Reynolds 853. S-Bend stays for tyre and heel clearance. Sloping top tube. Front facing binder slot.
• Fork: Straight blades, lowrider rack mounts, mudguard eyes.
• Head tube/headset: 1-1/8″ Standard. Cane Creek headset installed on the complete bike.
• Bottom bracket: PF30 BB Shell.

• Individual spares – each to carry our own set of spares spread around the back of each pannier
• ‘Worse case’ first aid kit each – kept in bar bags
• Own clothing – in laundry bags
• Own camping kit – for example head torch, games, books
• Own water in bottles – one each is a Safe Water filter plus spare filters
• One stool each
• Travel towel each
• Team water in bladders, split between both as required – one each
• One 75cl fuel bottle each
• Crocs and cup etc can be attached to the outside if necessary

• Tent – one will carry inner and pegs (M), the other the outer and poles (N) – in 2 separate dry bags strapped to the top of the rear rack
• Food to be split as required – to be kept in cooler bags and individual dry bag
• One to carry the cooking equipment whilst the other…
• Carries the tools as they weigh about the same
• ‘Every day’ and ‘Proper’ first aid kits – one each

• Water filters: 1 each Safe Water Travel Cup: 500ml – filters 1600ltrs per canister (1 replacement canister each). Bottle also doubles up as normal on-bike bottle without the filter inserted

First Aid Kits

We have 4 first aid kits, may sound excessive, but there is a reason for this. We have one ‘every-day’ first aid kit with things like mosquito repellent, ibuprofen, plasters, bite ointment, etc in it, which is kept in a pannier. We then have a ‘proper’ first aid kit for more ‘serious’ issues, which is also kept in a pannier. Finally, we each have a ‘worse scenario’ first aid kit which is kept in our bar bags. Contents of each are shown below:
